Senior wrestlers ace in Beach World C’ship

TEHRAN, Jun. 06 (MNA) – Iran’s national beach wrestling team won four gold medals to crest in the 2016 Beach Wrestling World Championship in Croatia.

All senior Iranian representatives at the tournament managed to bag gold medal and crowned the international sportive event with a total of 40 points.

Meanwhile, national teams of Greece and Turkey landed second and third, respectively.

Iran’s Mohammad Naderi at 70kg weight category thrashed Turkish, Romanian and Brazilian contestants en route to the final round where he downed the Greece rival to come first.

Payman Heidari, who had also attended the 80kg group of the junior event on Sunday, struck an off draw in the first round while he later overcame rivals from Turkey, Greece, Hungary and Russia in a row to win the gold medal.

Iran’s gold winner at 90kg category was Mohammad Sadati who subdued the Greece contestant in the final encounter.

The Iranian wrestler had initially routed his Norwegian, Romanian, Hungarian and Greek rivals.

Also on Sunday evening, Jaber Sadeghzadeh of Iran overwhelmed his Greek opponent in the final competition of the men’s over 90-kiloram class, and was awarded the gold medal.

Sadeghzadeh had earlier defeated the Greek rival and a representative from Turkey in his march to the final contest.

It is noteworthy that, Iran’s Junior team had also claimed the title with three gold medals while the country’s Cadet team finished runner-up in the sportive tournament with two medals on Sunday morning.

The 2016 Beach Wrestling World Championships started in Fažana, Croatia, on June 3, and came to an end on June 5.
